AMS Waiver Application

CHAM is offering a fast track to the Certified Housing Asset Manager designation! 

Experienced asset managers may now apply for a waiver to skip the Asset Management Specialist classes and directly enroll in the Certified Housing Asset Manager program. 

This is a two step process requiring approval, and here is how it works: 

Step 1: We will evaluate your experience level. You must demonstrate you have recent experience in affordable housing asset management overseeing a portfolio of at least 5 affordable housing properties for two years or more, knowledge of the LIHTC program, and proficiency in Excel.


Step 2: If you meet the experience requirement, you will need to take the tests for Asset Management Fundamentals (AM290) and Financial Fundamentals of Asset Management (AM291). Each test will take 45 to 60 minutes to complete and you may use whatever resources you want. You have 30 days from initial approval and two chances to pass. You must pass with a score of 80 or higher to be granted the waiver. 


Step 3: After passing the exams, then the prerequisites for enrolling in the Certified Housing Asset Management classes will be waived and you may register to take Advanced Financial Tools for Asset Managers (AM321/322). Please note, passing the tests and receiving the waiver will not have entitled you to earn the Asset Management Specialist certificate.  


If you do not pass, then you will need to take all three classes in the Asset Management Specialist series before starting on your Certified Housing Asset Management designation.   

Waiver Fee Cost: $175 processing and testing fee. Nonrefundable.
